Editorial approach
This web site consists of contributions by different experts in different fields. Each story has been reviewed by at least one other expert in the same field. First Nations stories and those which mention First Nations Peoples have been taken through a cultural clearance process.
First Nations cultural knowledge, tradition and stories are presented here alongside scientific or Western mainstream views as alternative ways of seeing which are worthy of deep and equal respect. Sometimes this knowledge reinforces traditional Western and scientific understanding, and sometimes this knowledge runs counter to it. Users should be aware there are different perspectives on the formation of the land bridge and the origins of its First Peoples.
In terms of the scientific articles, users should also be aware that scientific evidence can be open to different interpretations. As research evolves, our understanding of the past and present changes. We have endeavoured to tell a consistent story which reflects the current scientific consensus, but there remain subtle differences in perspectives between stories on this site. Eagle-eyed users may notice discrepancies in detail such as language names, time period names, place names, boundaries, specific dates at which deep past events happened, and in common names for plants or animals. This can be due to different data sets being drawn upon, different interpretations of the data, or different conventions being used by experts from different disciplines.
